The interior fit out of these apartments was part of a complete redevelopment of a landmark Oriental Bay building.

The redevelopment involved converting 4 apartments into 2 luxury apartments with the addition of a third apartment at roof level. While significant remodeling work was undertaken, maintaining and respecting the façade and general nature of the building was a key consideration. The additions are treated in a refined, minimal fashion using contemporary materials to achieve a contrasting yet sympathetic result.

In keeping with the period of the building, a simple layout of large interconnecting rooms off a central gallery was employed to provide a generosity of space and elegant proportions. A sparse, monochromatic palette was relieved by the rich textures and the quality of materials used.

“This was a highly complex build for a number of reasons. A budget was set and was actually met. The creative process was highly collaborative and enjoyable, the vision was clear and there was very little final variation from plan other than the few compromises invariably required to achieve budget. Communication between Custance and the building project managers and specialised trades was strong, over what was a substantial and technically challenging project.”
